- Will Hotfoon work with my internet connection?
- If you access Internet through an ISP on a dial-up connection, then you have a usable Internet connection. The Hotfoon Dialer works best when it is run on a computer that is directly connected to the Internet and has its own unique IP address.
Many users access the internet from their offices or schools, in most of these cases, the PCs are connected through an Intranet or a proxy to the Internet. Hotfoon should work fine with most of the proxy server without any changes in settings.
Hotfoon works well with Microsoft proxy server, Linux Squid, IPChains, Wingate Proxy, Netscape Proxy and several other proxy servers.
However, some Networks may require explicit permissions to be set by your Network Administrator. This is what you will have to tell your Network admin :1. Hotfoon uses UDP. Nearly all proxy servers and Intranets can handle UDP traffic. However, you network administrator may have explicitly turned off UDPs. They will have to be enabled.
2. If your network proxy server has SOCKS 5 capabilities, then your Network admin will supply you with an IP address and port number (usually the port number is 1080). You will have to enter this under the proxy tab on Hotfoon’s login dialog.
3. Some SOCKS 5 proxy servers may also require user authentication, enter the userID and password supplied by your Network Admin in the proxy tab under Hotfoon’s login dialog. If your SOCKS 5 proxy doesn’t require any authentication (most probably it doesn’t) then leave the userID and password on proxy tab empty. The userID/password on proxy tab has nothing to do with Hotfoon’s login userID/password as Hotfoon’s userID and password identify you on the Hotfoon server and the proxy userID/password identify you on your proxy server.
4. To check your network connection, try logging into Hotfoon. If the message [Offline] appears after sometime, or the message Trying to register remains continuously on Hotfoon display, then probably, your Internet connection is not able to transfer UDP packets to hotfoon.com. Try running ping hotfoon.com from the command line prompt. If you are unable to get ping replies from hotfoon.com, then there maybe a problem further up on the Net. An expert can run tracert to find out the problem.
- I cannot Login
- 1. Is hotfoon continuously displaying [Offline] message or Trying to Register?
If so, then Hotfoon is unable to access the Net properly, read the help on Configuring Internet for Hotfoon.
2. Does Hotfoon display a message about invalid userID/password?If you have forgotten your password, try retrieving your password by clicking here to get your password in email.
If you have forgotten your password, try retrieving your password by clicking here to get your password in email. If you have confirmed that your userID and password are proper and you are still facing login problems, then login to the Hotfoon website and click on the ’Help’ link from your Account Page (My page).
- Where is my Hotfoon Dialer?
- Check to see if you have the Hotfoon icon on your task bar (next to the clock/time indicator). If you see the icon, then Hotfoon is running.
Often, you forget which folder you downloaded Hotfoon to. You can either download it again (it takes less than 15 seconds) or you can search for hotfoon.exe among your files by choosing Find... or Search... from your Startup Menu. Once you find the file, click on it to start Hotfoon.
It is advisable to save Hotfoon to your desktop. Unlike other programs, it is very small and takes up less than 80 kb of space.
- I cannot make a call
- Check that you have a working Internet connection and that you are able to Login properly.
- I can hear them, they can’t hear me
- Your mic may not be connected or may not be working properly. Test your sound system and your mike.
- They can hear me, I can’t hear them
- Is your speaker working well? Try playing some audio file to check your speaker system.
- Call disconnects immediately
- Confirm that your internet connection is on.
At the DOS prompt, type "ping hotfoon.com" to check your Internet connection.
You should get at least 50% replies from pinging hotfoon.com.
- I get the message [Offline]
- This means that Internet connection with Hotfoon server is not proper. Check your Internet connectivity.
- Hotfoon does not work on my LAN
- Check that your LAN has Internet access. You can do that by trying to open hotfoon.com site from your browser.
Proxy servers connect LANs to the Internet. If your proxy server supports SOCKS 5, then you should find out the IP address and the port of the SOCKS 5 server on your LAN and enter this value in Hotfoon by clicking on Login, selecting Proxy tab and filling up the SOCKS 5 address and port.
If your LAN has WinProxy installed (proxies from Microsoft and Wingate provide WinProxy facility), then you don’t have to do anything and your Hotfoon should be running just fine.
